Just before our last show, I added a layer of clear coat to the snowmen figures in the hopes that it would protect them. As it turns out, the coating seeped through the white paint and helped to reveal the underlying wood grain. This would have looked awesome, if it wasn’t for the fact that it also stained it yellow. Everything that was painted in white now looked dirty and stained. I was exceptionally disappointed.
Having some time to rework these pieces before the next show, I decided to completely repaint them. I added a thick white layer with some texture to make the snowball effect more noticeable, as well as covering up the underlying stain. The whole process was a lot quicker the second time around since I was able to paint all the colors in succession, letting them dry while I was I was working on other pieces. The difference reworking these made was definitely worth the effort!
