Grand Re-Opening…. Finally!
As mentioned in the Store Status posting, it took a few weeks for me to iron out some bugs in the system and get the store page where it should have been the first time. I lost focus on what was important; Specializing in Handmade Oak and Iron Furnishings. I was more focused on getting the products on the site and making a sale. It took a shift in focus to see what really mattered.
Kristie and I were at a craft show in early December with a friend of ours who owns Hardwood Designs by Pop. Both he and I are semi-retired and got around to the subject of why we build things. I remember clearly making the comment that nothing I brought with me for the craft show was simply built to be sold. I don’t build anything just to sell it…. I build it because it brings me happiness.
For example, each snowman I painted developed a personality before it was finally complete. More than once I found myself laughing out loud when I finally painted on their faces. Some snooty, some cheeky, some just plain goofy, but each one crafted to make people smile. The facial expressions often determined the arm placement. Surprised with wide arms or shy with arms crossed at the waist, each one is unique and brings out different feelings of happiness.
If I would have remembered the happiness and love aspect, I would never have pushed the store to open so soon. As with before, I’m sure there are problems and site issues to be found. In the end though, all of those will work themselves out. I just need to focus on the why….. because it makes me happy, and I want to share some of that happiness with others.
With all that being said, welcome to the grand re-opening of Timber & Pipe’s online shop. Products will come and go as I have time to work on them. I’ll have another blog post up sometime later this week detailing the direction I see the business going in the next few years. My main goal is still to build oak and iron furniture and decor. However…. I’ve found that I definitely like the crafty side too.
